This week I went to the brilliant event The Story in Conway Hall, London. There were many inspring speakers including Tom Watson MP, artist Ellie Harrison and Head of Magic Anthony Owen. Tom Chatfield and Luke Pearson from Channel 4 told us about The End game they devised to help young people think about issues around death.
Opening the Story were Lucy Macnab and Ben Payne who founded with Nick Hornby the Ministry of Stories in 2010. In its first year, over 3000 young people took part in their volunteer-led workshops and writing projects. The inspiration came from the writer Dave Eggers and educator Ninive Calegari, who opened a shop for pirates and writing centre called 826 Valencia in San Francisco. I’ve been to the most excellent Super Hero Supply store in Brooklyn so I was thrilled to learn there’s a Hoxton Street Monster Supplies in East London.
The best story I heard all day was from Scott Burnham about this wonderful piece of street art made from pennies. (thanks to anjens for photo).
